It was written by someone who knows his stuff and knows how to teach it. Now, the programming concepts book that I really want would be the successor to Lisp in Small Pieces (ISBN 0-521-56247-3), but AFAICT, it hasn't been finished. There are exercises you can do to get rid of your lisp. (I hope to understand "Lisp in Small Pieces" someday. Easy to compile (most implementations of Lisp are written almost or entirely in Lisp, and the “reference” implementations usually include a compiler – see Sussmann's Scheme book or 'LiSP in Small Pieces' for examples). Got started on a major preoccupation - a deep study of Lisp In Small Pieces. Chapter 5 of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs and chapter 7 of Lisp in Small Pieces both present byte-code interpreting virtual machines for Scheme that are implemented in Scheme. Get Queinnec's "Lisp in Small Pieces". For some reason, amazon.ca has Lisp in Small Pieces by Christian Queinnec for CDN$3.95. For awhile last week the book Lisp in Small Pieces was the best selling book on the Canada Amazon.com website, out selling Harry Potter. So one would expect that the probability of buying the "Blue Book" given a purchase of the "Lisp in Small Pieces" would be much higher than the probability of purchasing Harry Potter. And back to the subject at hand, while it's not available for free on the web, if you love these kinds of CS books, Lisp In Small Pieces needs a place on your CS bookshelf.
